ACTIVITY CENTRES

 

The Agency has six activity Centres spread across the nation. Their mandates are clearly stated; though, collaboration exist between the centres on some projects where two or more activity centres can play a supporting role. Below are the various activity centres with their mandates respectively.

 

CENTRE FOR SATELLITE TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT (CSTD), ABUJA

The Centre for Satellite Technology Development (CSTD) is an Activity Centre of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). CSTD is tasked with the exclusive mandate to be “the primary focus for the development of satellite payloads for various space applications such as remote sensing, Communication, navigation and so on.

NATIONAL CENTRE FOR REMOTE SENSING (NCRS), JOS

 

NCRS is charged with sole responsibility of harmonizing research and development in space science and technology application for sustainable socio-economic development in the country. To do this would require;

  • Satellite data acquisition
  • Archiving and distribution, possibly aided by the establishment of a multi-source satellite receiving station and
  • Development of application solutions, etc.

CENTRE FOR SPACE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION (CSSTE), ILE-IFE

 

CSSTE is affiliated to the United Nations’ African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education, established for the Anglophone and Francophone countries to:

  1. Develop curriculum, skills and knowledge of university educators, research scientists and
  2. Train other professionals and personnel in the applications of
    • Satellite Remote Sensing,
    • Meteorology & Communication, and
    • Geographic Information System (GIS) for sustainable development etc.

CENTRE FOR SPACE TRANSPORT AND PROPULSION (CSTP), EPE

 

CSTP focuses on:

  1. Development of indigenous capability in rocketry and launching of satellites
  2. Development of satellite launch site
  3. Building capacity in aerospace engineering.

CENTRE FOR GEODESY AND GEODYNAMICS (CGG), TORO

 

CGG is established to build capacity for:

  1. Geodetic surveying and mapping,
  2. Monitoring of crustal deformation and subsidence due to excessive oil and gas exploitation,
  3. Floods and global mean sea level rise and other related seismic and geodynamic phenomena, including
  4. Implementation of international agreements with respect to
    • Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR),
    • Very long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) and
    • Cooperative International GPS Network etc.
